Discover Ghana

School Partnerships

We started our School Partnership Program in 2001 and in 2002 we organised 3 school visits by UK students and teachers to their Ghana Link Schools. These schools have continued to visit Ghana every year and have now been awarded the British Council Grants which have enabled Ghanaian students and teachers to visit the UK

School Partnerships

We feel that for an educational link to be successful we need to develop the feeling of equality —each school has something which it can offer to the other school. It is therefore important that  the curriculum links are developed quickly and that there is involvement by the whole school. Visits by the older students and teachers widens the educational link as the young people in both countries find there values and outlooks challenged. For many of the students this is a life changing experience.

Text Box: The 2007 Visit
The visits to the Ghana have evolved and this year was very different. The students spent time at Akosombo where they visited the OK Fair Trade Banana Plantation and the travelled to Kumasi and began a program which involved the students from both schools working on a Fair Trade project 50 students and teachers from both schools travelled to the village of Buoyem where they stayed in the village and conducted a survey
This village has developed a sustainable tourism program which the students at Uckfield have raised money to support. All the students visited a cocoa farm and on returning to Kumasi where given a talk by a representative from the Kuapa Kokoo Fair Trade Cocoa Group. The Teachers had time to discuss their curriculum links.
Ghanaian students and teachers are visiting Uckfield in July 2007 and will take part in MUNGA (Mock United Nations General Assembly) in the UK

In February 2002 we had our first student visit with 11 students and 3 teachers visiting Ghana for 12 days

The British students spent 2 days visiting the school and were given a very warm welcome. There was a full program of events and much time was spent talking with students and teachers about how the link could be developed between the two schools. The students also participated in some lessons such as football and Domestic Science

Uckfield were impressed to see this  practical lesson in construction!

The students and teachers of the Armed Forces school have now built their new science block and computer room.

The students also raised money to assist a rural primary school where school equipment was donated.

We are not really sure what they made of the entertainment!
